You all know that Shahrukh Khan, Kajol and Karan Johar first became friends during the shoot of Aditya Chopra’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in London. Karan, then his early twenties, was playing the role of Shahrukh’s character Raj’s friend. Karan had a movie idea and was still working on whether he wanted to turn director or be a fashion designer, when both SRK and Kajol told him that they believed he would be a very good director.

Karan finally made up his mind, gave up his fashion designing dreams, and wrote Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. He then went to meet Shahrukh and get him to sign on to play the main lead of Rahul. If you watch the movie at YouTube Boxoffice, you’ll see how SRK is perfect for the role. Now here’s where he encountered an unexpected obstacle. KJo said on his chat show Koffee with Karan that SRK initially didn’t want to do the film. Karan cried and begged Shahrukh to do the film and only then did SRK agree to it, albeit hesitantly, to pacify the crying Karan. When Kajol heard about this emotional scene, she agreed to play Anjali since SRK was onboard. Both Kajol and Shahrukh were more than happy with the success of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and for the way in which the young director had spiced up their chemistry. The rest, as they say, is history.
