Having proven to Bollywood filmmakers that there is indeed a box office formula that always works magic - a strong, straight from the heart strong script - Aamir Khan plans to wrap up his current films and take a six months sabbatical to spend time with his children.
Strong scripts have been a hallmark of Aamir's past successes like Lagaan (2001), Dil Chahta Hai (2001), The Rising (2005), Rang De Basanti (2006) and arguably Fanaa (2006).
Aamir bids his time waiting for a strong script to come along and that is the reason why his fans barely see him in a single Aamir film every year. Good scripts are not easy to find in a country that lacks literary talent.
With the endearing Taare Zameen Par Aamir has proven that even a simple script will be readily lapped up by audiences provided it comes from the heart.
Aamir plans to produce two films this year - Jaane Tu, the launch bed for his nephew Imraan followed by Delhi Belly.
He also plans to wrap up his remake of Ghajini in the first half of the year.
Incidentally, expect to see Aamir go bald next month for the film.
"I will do it [go bald] next month. There is a part of the film which requires me to have some hair on my head. After that part is shot, I will go completely bald," he says.
After completing Ghajini, Aamir plans to take six months off to spend exclusively with his children.
The making of Taare Zameen Par gave him an insight into the needs of children and Aamir plans to act on what he has learnt.
Whatever else you may say about Aamir, you will have to concede that he has a mind of his own.
"I refuse to be burdened by what the world expects me to do. I would rather do what I feel like," says Aamir.
